Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checks...
For applicants that will be working in England or Wales, there are two levels of criminal record check:
Standard
Contains details of all convictions held on the Police National Computer including current and spent convictions as well as details of any cautions, reprimands or final warnings.
Enhanced
Contains details of all convictions, spent and unspent. An additional level of check through local police records contain additional information that may be relevant to the post the applicant is being considered for, the Chief Officer of police may release information for inclusion in an Enhanced check. Exceptionally, and in a very small number of circumstances (typically to protect the integrity of current police investigations), additional information may be sent under separate cover to the Nominated Person and must not be revealed to the applicant.
The information included in the disclosure will depend on the level of disclosure applied for.

Additional Optional Checks
ISA Children’s List – is maintained by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) Vetting & Barring scheme (VBS), names people barred from working with children under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006)
ISA Vulnerable Adults List - is maintained by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) Vetting & Barring scheme (VBS), names people barred from working with vulnerable adults under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006)
ISA Adult First check - as outlined above and are available in only very exceptional circumstances; in England these are described in Department of Health (DH) guidance as, where a care worker may be allowed to start work in a Care Home, for a Domiciliary Care Agency, or as an adult placement carer before a CRB disclosure certificate has been issued. In Wales, the provision only extends to Care Homes and Nurses Agency workers. This check is NOT available to Domiciliary Care Agencies registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate of Wales (CSSIW).
Such cases are permissible only where it is necessary to take such action because of a real danger that staffing levels will otherwise fall below numbers required to meet statutory obligations. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW), will monitor applications for ISA Adult First checks to ensure compliance with this criteria.
